Daddy, where is God? - a poem by Richard Gomez
Daddy, where is God?
Can he not hear me cry?
Why did he take mommy?
Wish I could have said good-bye
I wish I could have hugged her
I need her to hug me
I wanted her to see
Me win the spelling-bee
Daddy, where is God?
I've prayed and prayed for days
Not only my good night prayer
But in many different ways
I prayed so many prayers
I'm sure God must have a stack
And if he would only read just one
I'd get my Mommy back
Son, your mommy is in heaven
Someday we will go too
But until that day arrives
Here is what we must do
Remember her in pictures
Or stories that are told
Think upon the way she walked
And the ways her arms would fold
Remember the Sunday mornings
Remember the walks in grass
Its pain you feel right now
But I promise, it won't last
Daddy, don't you miss her?
Don't you miss her laugh?
Why do you not pray to God
And get my Mommy back?
I miss her very dearly, son
My heart it aches to wake
But its not for us to question
Who God should and shouldn't take
